NC-2009 EAp2:Minimum Energy Performance

Chilled Water Pumps, Primary/Secondary

ASHRAE 90.1-2007 Sec G3.1.3.10 requests that users specify pump power of 22 W/gpm, with a primary / secondary pumping system and variable flow on the secondary side. In my particular design, the proposed system is variable primary without scondary pumps. I have seen two interpretations adopted by LEED reviewers: 1) both the primary and the secondary pump shall be allocated 22 W/gpm. 2) the primary and the seconary pump shall share the 22 W/gpm. Any preference among this community? Aaron

Good question Aaron! The Standard is not real clear on this one. Our interpretation is #2 which is the conservative approach. Would love to hear other thoughts on this one.
