NC-2009 SSc4.4:Alternative Transportation—Parking Capacity

LEED Canada 2009 option 1

Our project is a retail center and only option 1 is available to us for credit SS4.4. It requires : - meet but not exceed local zoning - not exceed 3.5 spaces /1000 sqft floor - provide preferred parking for 5% NC or 3% CS of total parking spaces We meet the first and third points, but cannot have the city reduce to the requirements of the second point (3.5/1000). In your opinion, are we eligible or not? Is the second point there in the event that there would be no local zoning? There really isn't much information for me to go on in the guide book and no canadian CIRs clarifying the situatiuon either. I know US has specific retail requirements. Could I use them as precedent? Thanks!

Nancy, I am not familiar with how you would navigate a situation like this in LEED Canada. You might find some help in our LEED Canada forum. It seems reasonable to use USGBC retail requirements as a reference point; however, I don't know how that kind of thing might play there.
