My project is a high rise residential building located in a hot and humid area. While we are working with building HVAC system design, the project owner is considering to adopt natural ventilation method to comply with EQ P1. The local HVAC design engineer studied Section 5.1 of ASHRAE Standard 62.1 and came out a question: The window is rarely opened during summer time because the weather is hot and air conditioning would be on most of time. How can indoor air quality can be maintained in dwelling units since the window is not opened most of time.. Additional question is: these dwelling units will be installed VRF air conditioning system and these VRF will not handled outdoor air. Can LEED allow natural ventilation design combine with air conditioning system

Jorng-ren, I am hearing conflicting things from you.1) The owner wants to use natural ventilation.2) In order to provide occupant comfort and sufficient fresh air, the building needs outdoor air provided mechanically.I don't see how you can only use natural ventilation if you can see so clearly that won't work out in practice. Why don't you go with a mixed-mode HVAC system, with cooling and outdoor air?
