Product Transparency - LP 50 Letter - Your Response

Hi SD Leaders,

As you may be aware, this past April a group of manufacturers calling themselves the Living Product 50 responded to the letters that many of us sent about five years ago advocating for transparency in their product ingredients.  A copy of that letter can be reviewed about midway through the page at this link:  https://living-future.org/lpc/basics/   Additionally, Nadav just wrote a piece about this letter on BuildingGreen that can be found here:  https://www.buildinggreen.com/op-ed/let-s-talk-mainstreaming-transparency-takes-more-letters

A small group listed below got together at the May 2018 Living Future conference to draft the design community’s response to this letter.  We would like your comments and firm logo on the draft letter which can be reviewed at this link as a Google Document:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_0csoQf-OBM3kKEeCz8ReKxS4cKHOEGp9icJX5ROJro/edit?usp=sharing

We would like to give you until September 5th to provide all your comments so that we can have a completed letter ready to distribute at the Living Product Expo a few days later.  Thanks for your help and in all that you do in your work to advocate for these important market changes.

Hi, I tried to add logo but don’t work in Google Docs so not sure that worked. Attached in case that is better. Thank you for doing this. Hi Chris, I’m the newbie in this group, having just joined a few days ago. Great letter. Architectural Nexus wants to sign on – logo attached. This letter mirrors our current and ongoing efforts to instill material transparency into our master specifications and support those manufacturers that provide it, agreed that it’s quite an effort but so rewarding! It’s an important part of our company commitment to regenerative design. Thanks for all of the work on the letter, Chris and others! Lots of contributors. In reading it again, I don’t believe we’ve highlighted what we have done thus far, and I don’t believe we come across as remaining firm – increasing, rather – our commitment to transparency and the manufacturers that are disclosing. I believe that the manufacturers mostly want to know how committed we are to this long term game plan. I believe they also want to know that we have actually done some things but that the construction process take years to go from goal to material procurement so the results are forthcoming. I couldn’t help myself so I added a paragraph that includes these two items. I will not be offended in the least if it is struck or heavily modified. -Kjell .................................................................
